Emergency information

What to do in event of a fire

  1. Warn other members of the house
  2. Crawl low and fast to escape smoke 'Get Down, Get Low, Get Out'
  3. Shut doors behind you to slow the spread of fire
  4. Meet at the planned meeting place
  5. Once out, stay out - never go back inside
  6. Phone the Fire Service from a safe phone
  7. Tell the fire service your: house number, street and post code
  8. Wait for the Fire Service to arrive and tell them where the fire is and if anyone is still inside.

What to do if you smell gas

  • DON'T smoke or light matches
  • DON'T turn electrical switches on or off
  • DO put out naked flames
  • DO open doors and windows
  • DO keep people away from the affected area
  • DO turn off the meter at the control valve
  • DO call Transco's emergency gas service on 0800 111 999
